There are some family sessions that just make me smile every time I look back through the gallery, and this early fall family session at Aspen Grove in Provo Canyon is definitely one of them. The boys were completely darling, the light was beautiful, and we happened to arrive right when the aspens were beginning to change colors.

If you're looking for a beautiful location for family photos in Provo, Utah, especially during the summer or early fall, Aspen Grove is one of my favorite places to photograph families.

A Beautiful Mix of Green and Yellow Fall Colors

One of my favorite things about photographing families in Utah is that you don't always have to wait for the peak of fall color to get gorgeous fall photos. For this session, we went right as the colors were beginning to change. There was still plenty of beautiful green throughout the trees, mixed with those soft yellow aspen leaves that are so classic to fall in the Utah mountains. I absolutely loved the combination.

The result was colorful without feeling overly "fall," which is especially beautiful if you love bright, natural, true-to-life family photos.

The Sweetest Boys and Their "Princess"

Of course, the location and fall colors were beautiful, but what really made this session special was this family. These boys were SO darling. At one point during the session, I told them that their mom was pretty lucky to have so many handsome boys. They told me that they call their mom their "princess." They said they don't call her a queen because a queen would be in charge of everything. Instead, she's their princess because she gets to be pampered and doted on.

I mean… how cute is that?!

I think those little moments are one of my favorite parts of family photography. Yes, I want to create beautiful images for my clients, but I also love getting to see the little pieces of their family dynamic that make them them. The inside jokes, the personalities, the way the kids interact with their parents, and all of those little things that you might not think to photograph on your own.

Those are the things I want my family sessions to capture.

Why I Love Aspen Grove for Family Photos

Aspen Grove is one of my favorite locations for summer and fall family photography in Provo Canyon.

One of the biggest reasons I love it is that it is beautiful without being difficult to access. Parking is easy, and there are bathrooms nearby, which can make a surprisingly big difference when you're getting a whole family ready for photos!

There is also cell service, although it can be a little spotty in certain areas. Personally, I don't find that to be much of an issue because it's still very easy to find your photographer once you're there.

And then there's the scenery.

You get beautiful mountain views, aspen trees, open areas, and plenty of variety without needing to spend the entire session hiking from one spot to another. That makes it a great option for families with young kids or anyone who wants beautiful mountain photos without a long, difficult walk.
