Spring in Utah is absolutely magical, and this recent family session in Salt Lake City was the perfect reminder of why May is one of my favorite months for family photos.
This beautiful location features rolling green hills covered in tall grass, wide open skies, and pops of yellow and purple wildflowers scattered throughout the landscape. It feels peaceful, natural, and almost storybook-like this time of year. When families ask me for a location that showcases Utah's incredible spring beauty, this spot is always at the top of my list.
For this session, the family chose a soft pastel color palette with shades of blue, pink, and white. Their outfit choices could not have been more perfect for this location. The pastel tones complemented the fresh greens of the hills and allowed the wildflowers to shine without competing for attention. The result was a gallery full of light, airy, and timeless images that feel like spring itself.
One of my favorite things about photographing families in Salt Lake City during May is how vibrant everything becomes after a long winter. The hills are lush and green, the temperatures are comfortable, and the golden evening light creates the most beautiful glow. Combined with the open skies and colorful wildflowers, it's a dream setting for family photography.
I love this spot for family sessions because the kids had plenty of room to run and explore, which naturally leads to genuine smiles, laughter, and sweet moments together. Some of the best family photos happen when children are free to be themselves, and this location provides the perfect environment for that. The open space allows families to interact naturally while still providing a stunning backdrop in every direction.
If you're planning family photos in Salt Lake City and love the idea of rolling hills, wildflowers, and wide-open views, spring is one of the best times to schedule your session. Locations like this are at their peak beauty in May and early June before the summer heat arrives.
As a Salt Lake City family photographer, I love helping families choose locations and outfits that work beautifully together. Whether you're drawn to mountain views, wildflower fields, or open grassy hills like these, I'll help create a session that feels relaxed, fun, and authentic to your family.
