There are few places in Utah that feel quite as magical as Albion Basin. Nestled at the top of Alta Ski Area in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Albion Basin is one of my absolute favorite locations for family photography sessions during wildflower season.

The Tiu family’s session was everything I love about summer in the Utah mountains — gorgeous blooms, breathtaking views, and a beautiful family soaking in the magic of the moment together.

Albion Basin is truly a spectacular location for family photos, but it does require a little extra planning. Because it is such a popular destination during wildflower season, parking can be limited. Families planning an Albion Basin photography session need to arrive at the toll booth hours in advance to make sure they can get a parking spot. It may take some extra preparation, but I promise it is worth it!

One of my favorite things about photographing families at Albion Basin is finding the perfect pockets of flowers and mountain views while still respecting the landscape. Visitors are required to stay on designated pathways to help protect the wildflowers, but that doesn’t mean we can’t create that dreamy “standing in a field of flowers” look. With careful angles, thoughtful composition, and a little photography magic, I love creating images that feel like you’re surrounded by endless blooms.

The wildflowers at Albion Basin only bloom for a short window each summer, typically around July, which makes these sessions incredibly special. Every year the timing changes slightly depending on the weather, so planning ahead is key if you’re hoping for those iconic Utah wildflower family photos.

Whether you’re visiting Utah, celebrating a growing family, or simply wanting updated family photos in one of the most beautiful locations in the state, an Albion Basin session is an unforgettable experience. The mountain views, colorful wildflowers, and peaceful feeling of being surrounded by nature create a gallery that feels timeless.
